Even as a kid, I never understood why reading was presented as a good in and of itself. Didn't it matter WHAT you read, or what you did with the information you gained by reading? Is there really no qualitative difference between the poetry of Robert Frost and that of Theodor Geisel? Between the fiction of Dostoyevsky and that of Dan Brown?
